OUR STORY
Founded in 2024, the “No Brain, No Gain” association is a non-profit organization based
in Slovenia. Our core mission is to promote research-approved sports education
programs, dedicated to enhancing both physical and cognitive abilities of participants.
The association was funded by Dr. Luka Šlosar, with Dr. Uroš Marušič contributing as the scientific consultant.
Together, they leveraged their expertise as researchers, kinesiologists, neuroscientists,
and sports teachers to develop evidence-based activities. These activities are conducted in an enriched,
multisensory environment with the aim of enhancing cognitive functions and motor learning.
Scientists have recognized the potential of “enriched environments” during lifespan but
most importantly during critical periods of development as well as aging, when the brain
is highly receptive to stimuli such as visual, auditory, and tactile inputs. During these
sensitive periods, expected stimuli are likely to exert a heightened influence on brain
organization – neuroplasticity, however modulated by individual experience-dependent
processes. Despite being a newly established association, the founders have extensive
experience in leading a variety of national as well as international projects, including
Horizon EU, Horizon 2020, Erasmus+ Sport, and ERA Talents. Additionally, the
association has a strong presence in local initiatives, having led numerous motor-
cognitive activities in kindergartens and schools. Furthermore, the association organizes
workshops tailored for professionals in the sector, such as educators, teachers, and
coaches. During the summer, these activities are integrated into multiple days sport
camps for both children and professionals. The association’s activities extend to
vulnerable groups, including children with disabilities and adults with various
neurological pathologies such as Alzheimer, Parkinson’s disease and/or post-stroke
patients. Our programs are specifically tailored to meet the needs of these vulnerable
populations, drawing upon scientifically validated research.
