dr. MITJA GERŽEVIČ
After graduating from the Faculty of Sports, University of Ljubljana in 2004, Assist. Prof. Dr. Mitja Gerževič began his career as a young researcher in the business sector at VISPORT d.o.o.. There, he was involved in developing, planning, and conducting innovative individualized movement therapy programs for people with special needs as part of an
interdisciplinary team. He also designed and led fitness and kinesiotherapy programs for both top-level and recreational athletes, in addition to providing internal training for therapists. In collaboration with SEVER d.o.o., he developed a line of modular balance boards for functional joint stabilization training.
With extensive experience as a sports coach, particularly in rowing, volleyball, and football, Dr. Gerževič has also worked as a fitness instructor and as a teacher of Alpine skiing and snowboarding. He served as the head of the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding School at two local ski clubs and lectured at the Ski Association of Slovenia – Association of Snowboard Teachers (ISIA licensing seminar). Additionally, he contributed to professional training programs for the Sports Union of Slovenia and collaborated with the Creative Football Institute and Football Academy, where he was responsible for implementing, analyzing, and interpreting performance measurements and testing results for young football players.
From 2010 to 2017, Dr. Gerževič worked as a researcher and higher education teacher at the University of Primorska. At the Institute for Kinesiology Research of the Science and Research Centre, he headed the Laboratory for Kinesiology Research and participated in several national and international research projects. At the Faculty of Health Sciences, he taught in the Applied Kinesiology bachelor’s and master’s programs.
In 2017, he transitioned to the Euro-Mediterranean University as the Study Programmes and Study Affairs Coordinator at the Education Department. In this role, he was responsible for implementing existing study programs, developing new ones, managing projects related to capacity building in higher education, and supporting university bodies such as the Senate and its commissions.
Currently, Dr. Gerževič brings his extensive expertise to our association, where he plays a key role in advancing our initiatives in the field of kinesiology and physical education. Leveraging his in-depth knowledge of clinical kinesiology, exercise programming, and nutrition for non-communicable diseases, he supports the development of evidence-based strategies for enhancing physical well-being. His expertise enriches the association’s work, particularly in developing tailored programs for diverse populations and promoting holistic health through physical activity.
